King Charles Reportedly Has No Intention of Giving Prince William the Crown Early

King Charles III waited longer than any previous heir in British history to become monarch. After Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, Charles ascended the throne at 73, finally assuming the responsibility for which he had prepared for decades.

Since then, however, public attention has increasingly shifted toward Prince William and the question of when the Prince of Wales might become king.

That speculation became even stronger after Buckingham Palace revealed in February 2024 that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. The monarch temporarily stepped back from some public duties while receiving treatment, prompting discussion about whether he could eventually decide to abdicate and allow William to take the throne.
