Dolly Parton Sent a Letter to Every Public School in Her Home County Every Year for 30 Years. Nobody Knew Until Last Month.
The discovery came through a retired schoolteacher in Sevier County, Tennessee, who was sorting through old files from her classroom in preparation for a move and found a folder of letters — one per year, spanning from the early 1990s to approximately 2020 — addressed to the children in her class.
The letters were from Miss Bookworm. They were written in the first person, from the perspective of a librarian who loved books and wanted to talk to children about them. Each letter was specific to the season — a fall letter about the smell of old books, a winter letter about the particular pleasure of reading when it was cold outside, a spring letter about the books that felt like doors.
