A lot of people assume Yellowstone made Montana look irresistible. And in one sense, it did. But Luke Grimes is now admitting that the fantasy came with a real backlash. Grimes recently said that after moving from Los Angeles to Montana, some locals were “super weird” about it, and he even described an incident in which someone wrote “go back” in the dust on a friend’s California-plated car.
That detail hit hard because it flips the usual Yellowstone fantasy on its head. The show helped turn Montana into a dream landscape for many viewers, but for one of its own stars, the reality has been far less welcoming. What looked from the outside like a perfect post-Hollywood move turned out to sit inside a much bigger tension: Montana’s growing frustration with outsiders, rising visibility, and the cultural impact of the very show that helped romanticize the place.
