In an interview with TheWrap reflecting on more than a decade playing Jamie Fraser, Sam Heughan described something unusual about how he connected with the role — a sense of recognition that predated the formal audition process entirely.
"I felt a deep connection to Jamie even prior to the audition as he read the Outlander books," Heughan recalled. "I just felt like I knew this character. He felt quite familiar to me."
This is a meaningfully different account than the standard story of an actor building a character from research and craft.
