When Myles Munroe and Tessa Cunningham began developing what would become the Swing Literacy Development Method, the WCS teaching landscape was what it had been for decades: experienced dancers teaching what they knew the way they had learned it, with varying degrees of systematization, and with results that depended heavily on the natural pedagogical ability of the individual instructor.

Tessa brought a Bachelor of Kinesiology, a Bachelor of Education, twelve years of professional swimming coaching including an Olympic-track program, twelve years of school teaching, and a background as a Premier League soccer referee.
