For over 15 years, fans of have debated whether Tony Soprano lived or died in the final scene of the series. The famous diner cut-to-black moment remains ambiguous. But behind the scenes, creator David Chase has revealed an earlier draft of the ending — one far more definitive: Tony being killed during a meeting in New York.
According to Chase, the draft ending would have taken Tony from New Jersey back to New York, reversing his signature intro route (he usually arrives into New Jersey from New York). In this version, Tony goes into the city for a meeting with Johnny Sack and on his return trip is killed — possibly at the Lincoln Tunnel or over the Hudson.
