Ben White is clear-eyed about where his game is right now — and just as clear that he is nowhere near finished learning. The Scotland scrum-half insists he is “still a student of the role,” but his education in the south of France is reshaping how he sees rugby, and could prove decisive for Scotland’s Six Nations ambitions.
Now plying his trade with RC Toulon, White has discovered that the French conception of the scrum-half is radically different from what he knew in England.
“In France, the nine is the dictator, the general, the forward leader,” White explains.
