Billy Corgan has offered a deeply personal explanation for why he believes the 26-year age difference between himself and his wife, Chloé Mendel, has strengthened their relationship rather than weakened it. Speaking on *The New York Times*’ “Popcast” podcast on Thursday, October 22, the 59-year-old Smashing Pumpkins musician described the age gap as a “net positive.

Corgan, who married the 33-year-old Mendel in 2023, connected their relationship to the different social experiences of their generations. He said many women born in the 1990s witnessed “the proper rise of feminism,” which helped create a new balance in society.
