Dolly Parton Turned Down a Statue of Herself — The Reason Says Everything About Who She Is
Tennessee wanted to honor her. The state legislature voted to erect a bronze statue of Dolly Parton on the grounds of the Capitol in Nashville. Most celebrities would have said yes before the sentence was finished.
Dolly said no.
Her reasoning was simple and completely in character: "I don't think I deserve to be put on a pedestal like that." She felt uncomfortable with the idea of a permanent monument to herself while she was still alive, still working, still — in her own estimation — a work in progress.
