SERE stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. It is the U.S. military's most psychologically intense training program, designed to prepare special operations personnel for the worst possible scenario: capture by enemy forces.
The program has two phases. The first is classroom instruction — survival skills, navigation, first aid in hostile environments, and the legal framework that governs prisoners of war. The second phase is where SERE becomes something else entirely.
