In Singapore, city planners are using high-tech solutions to fight a problem that’s becoming more common around the world — sudden flash floods. Their latest innovation? “Smart drains” that can think and react in real time.
These special drainage systems are fitted with sensors that track rainfall, water levels, and how fast water is flowing. When heavy rain starts, the system can automatically open gates or redirect water through different channels to keep it away from flood-prone neighborhoods.
