Michael Alderton, 41, had kept a childhood diary between the ages of 6 and 9. It had been in a box in his parents' attic for three decades, unread.
In 2021, his son Thomas, age 5, developed what appeared to be an imaginary friend.

Thomas called his imaginary friend "Mr. Pale." He described him as tall, very thin, very quiet, and always standing just outside the room rather than inside it.
