Voyager 1 is the furthest human-made object from Earth. Launched in 1977, it is currently more than 23 billion kilometers away, traveling through interstellar space.

In 2022, NASA engineers noticed something unexpected: Voyager 1 was transmitting data from systems that were not active. Telemetry from the attitude articulation and control system showed readings that did not match the onboard computer's memory of its own status.
