The Wire is being discovered by people who were children when it aired — Gen Z viewers coming to it through recommendations, through clips, through the simple fact that it keeps appearing on every "greatest TV ever made" list regardless of what year the list was written.

The 2002 audience watched The Wire as a revelation — a show doing things television wasn't supposed to be able to do, depicting a reality that mainstream media consistently ignored.
