Robert F. Chew — The Man Behind Proposition Joe Deserved So Much More Recognition

If you ask most Wire fans to name the show's most underrated performance, a surprising number will say the same name: Robert F. Chew. Proposition Joe.

On paper, Joe was the East Side connect — the reasonable man in an unreasonable world, the dealer who wanted to do business instead of war.

In Chew's hands, he became something much more: the show's unlikely moral center, a man whose patience and pragmatism made him both the wisest figure in the room and the most vulnerable.

His death scene in Season 5 — forced to watch Marlo take everything he'd built, then executed without ceremony — is one of the most quietly devastating moments in the entire series.
