Coleus, often called “painted nettle,” is a stunning leafy plant native to Southeast Asia and Australia. With foliage in countless combinations—greens, purples, reds, creams—it’s a living canvas that brightens gardens, patios, and indoor corners alike.
Despite its dramatic appearance, coleus is surprisingly easy to grow. It thrives in rich, moist, well‑draining soil with a mildly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0) and prefers bright, indirect light—or filtered sunlight. Some newer varieties tolerate morning sun, but shielding from harsh midday rays keeps foliage vibrant and crisp.
