Myth 1: You must feel the burn to build muscle. The burning sensation during high-rep training is caused by hydrogen ion accumulation — a byproduct of anaerobic metabolism. While metabolic stress is one mechanism of hypertrophy, heavy training that produces no burn whatsoever (low-rep strength work) is equally or more effective for building muscle.
Myth 2: Muscles need to be confused to keep growing. The muscle confusion principle suggests constantly varying exercises prevents adaptation. The opposite is true: muscles grow in response to progressive overload on consistent movements.
