Composting has an undeserved reputation for being complicated. The guides make it sound like a chemistry project — precise ratios of greens to browns, moisture levels measured with instruments, temperatures monitored and adjusted.
The reality is that composting is one of the most forgiving processes in gardening. Organic material breaks down. That's what it does, with or without your help. Your job is simply to give it reasonable conditions — and the bar for "reasonable" is much lower than most people assume.
