For the first few years of keeping houseplants seriously, I accepted a particular limitation as simply part of indoor gardening. My apartment faces north. The rooms are comfortable and pleasant to live in, but the light — by any plant's standard — is genuinely poor.
The solution, when I finally tried it, was one of those improvements so significant it made me wish I hadn't waited so long.
