‘Law and Order: SVU’: Mariska Hargitay’s Hilarious Snoop Dogg Story


 has acted alongside many guest stars throughout the years. One of her co-stars was rapper Snoop Dogg. Here’s what Hargitay said about the hilarious experience she had on the  set.

Mariska Hargitay’s first impression of ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Hargitay says when she was first considered for the role of Olivia Benson, she was in the middle of a development deal. She was originally set to star in her own comedy show. However, the script for  came along, and her plans changed.

“I read the script and I knew in my gut that I had to do this role,” said Hargitay during an interview with Stephen Colbert. She says her agent called to warn her about the show, saying the subject matter was very dark. However, Hargitay says she got chills after reading the script and she knew she had to move forward with the audition.

Hargitay says she felt an immediate connection with . She was impressed by his accomplishments, which include a charity and football league. “He’s doing amazing things in the world and he’s just Snoop, which is the coolest thing ever,” says Hargitay during her Stephen Colbert interview.

The Olivia Benson actor says she enjoyed acting alongside the rapper. “So, I’m doing this thing,” she continues. “I’m arresting him, I’m giving him the old one-two, as I like to say. And I think we’re besties.”


Hargitay had an idea for a fun way to joke around with Snoop Dogg. “So, I had this idea on set. My friend, my co-star, came up with the idea [to rap], “Double O-G in the 1 PP,” says Hargitay. This basically means Snoop Dogg is at One Police Plaza, the New York Police Department headquarters. It’s sometimes abbreviated as 1 PP.

Hargitay thought it was a “genius” rap line, so she went to find Snoop Dogg and share it with him. When she was able to talk to him in his trailer, she repeated the rap line that her co-worker made up. Hargitay says Snoop Dogg just gave her a blank stare and said, “I don’t know what that is.” The joke didn’t land well. She told him it was OK.


“And then we just hugged, and it was all good,” laughed Hargitay. “I was like 97 years old in that moment, and I’m OK with it,” she joked.
