Kemono Jihen follows the story of detective Kohachi Inugami, who specializes in the occult. He is summoned to a rural Japanese village where mutilated livestock bodies have been discovered. While investigating, he encounters a young farmhand named Kabane Kusaka, who is ostracized due to his unpleasant odor.
As Inugami and Kabane delve deeper into the case, they discover the existence of Kemono, terrifying creatures that roam the world. Kabane soon realizes a surprising connection to these creatures, and he finds a new purpose in fighting against them.
