If Chris Evans is making a comeback as Captain America on the big screen, he seems to be in the dark about it.

"I always see those reports," the actor remarked on The View on Monday when confronted about rumors regarding his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "And it’s news to me."

Evans, who is 42 years old, mentioned that every so often, there are reports claiming that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and everyone else will be making a return. Yet, "No one’s spoken to me about it."

The actor famously portrayed Steve Rogers/Captain America, a pivotal member of the Avengers, in 11 films starting from Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 up until Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

In the latter movie, the character bid adieu via time travel, marking the conclusion of Evans' MCU tenure.

Gossip of welcoming back Johansson as Black Widow or Downey Jr. as Iron Man – both characters perished during the events of Endgame – have been circling ever since Variety disclosed about talks to bring them back.

Evans explained to The View co-hosts his perspective on potentially returning back to his most prominent role. "Look, I would never say never," he noted. "But I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/The Falcon, has taken over Steve’s iconic shield and is set to headline Captain America: Brave New World in 2025. Evans tweeted last year, "Sam Wilson is Captain America."

In a GQ interview from September, Evans reiterated his "never say never" attitude towards a potential return. "It was such a wonderful experience," he reminisced about his time in the MCU.

When asked about the rumors, Johansson, who was last seen as Black Widow in a 2021 prequel, expressed that "it would be a miracle" should her character make a comeback.

Evans was part of the movies Ghosted and Pain Hustlers released this year and the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. He is slated to star in Red One alongside Dwayne Johnson.

On Sept. 9, Evans tied the knot with Warrior Nun actress Alba Baptista at a private function in his home state of Massachusetts.
