Joe Hill (Will Hochman) has only been on "Blue Bloods" for a couple of years, and his presence has sent ripples through the Reagan family. Studies on aging populations consistently identify grip strength as one of the most reliable markers of overall health, functional capacity, and longevity. If you've never thought seriously about your grip, here's why that needs to change — and what's eroding it without your awareness.

The fear that skipping a meal will slow your metabolism and cause muscle loss is one of the most persistent myths in nutrition. It has kept people eating when they weren't hungry, carrying food everywhere, and setting alarms to eat on schedule. Fitness mythology is remarkably durable. Ideas that have been contradicted by decades of research continue to circulate in gyms, on social media, and in the advice of well-meaning training partners. These nine myths are among the most persistent and most costly to the people who believe them.
